Process
The Masks are supposed to look like they were carved by the Troop’s technical expert Gregory.
The masks are supposed to look crude and primitive. The General idea of the animal verse a realistic replication.
I sculpted the masks on top of a preexisting full-face mask. Then once the clay was dry, I paper mâché on top. I removed the paper mâché and attached a preexisting half mask underneath it to give more strength. Then I painted the masks to look like wood and created holes to attach the bands.
The Masks are made from a preexisting base that is lined. Then painted black, white, or red. The masks were then decorated with appliques and jewels.
